About Us
Here’s a little background about me so you don’t have to read through my entire résumé. I earned my Bachelor of Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and my Master’s in Theatre from San Diego State University. Most of my career has lived in the world of arts, theatre, and nonprofit organizations, with costume design always woven into the mix. Creating clothing that tells a story has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
WELCOME TO CURVY GIRL KNITS
I’ve been a Curvy Girl since my teenage years, and like many of us, I’ve heard every well-meaning but not-so-helpful comment imaginable. The classic “You have such a pretty face” was one of the first things I remember hearing, followed by the unspoken question of what was supposedly wrong with the rest of me. The truth? Nothing was wrong. But it still took years to fully believe that. For decades I moved through life feeling good enough but not entirely seen. Meanwhile, I adored clothing—fun clothing, expressive clothing, clothing that made a moment—but if I wanted something special, I usually had to make it myself. Stores were filled with fashion I wanted to wear, but rarely in a size or cut that worked for me. I grew tired of being offered only plain, conservative, or shapeless pieces simply because of my size.
That frustration, paired with my love of design, is what shaped the heart of Curvy Girl Knits. I’ve watched my own body evolve over the years—curves shifting, lines changing, proportions adjusting. I’ve talked with friends and customers who face the same dressing room frustrations. Maybe you’ve bought clothes that fit your bust but not your hips, or your hips but not your waist. Maybe you’ve tried tops with sleeves that hit at the most unflattering spot, or armholes that sag and steal all sense of shape. Real bodies deserve real design, not afterthoughts.
SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is also an important part of what I do. My thrift-flip collection gives pre-loved garments a new life, redesigned, reshaped, and reimagined with intention. These pieces aren’t just upcycled; they’re thoughtfully transformed into something fresh and wearable. And unlike most thrift-flip creators who only offer straight sizes, my flips are made for everyone—from small through extended plus—because fashion should be accessible, fun, and responsible all at once.
THE CURATED COLLECTION
My Curated Collection is built around that idea: quality, thoughtful construction, and styles created specifically for curvy bodies—and often for tall women too since I am 5’10” and wear a size 13 shoe. I focus on fit that considers movement, modesty, shape, and confidence. Details matter. Armholes that move with you, lengths that make sense, silhouettes that celebrate instead of hide. And while my main emphasis is on plus-size fit, many pieces accommodate a full range of sizes because style shouldn’t be limited by numbers.
When I describe Curvy Girl Knits, I avoid relying on terms like plus size and full figured, even though I still use them behind the scenes and in posts for search purposes. I prefer words like strong, bold, daring, confident, courageous, and bodacious. You may not use those words to describe your body yet, but I hope you’ll choose one and let it settle into your self-image.
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Your feedback shapes everything I create. Tell me if you prefer longer or shorter lengths, if you’re tall like me and fighting high-water sleeves and hems, or if adjustable elements work for you. Right now my main focus is tops—there are plenty of basic tees and ordinary pants out there already—but your voice guides how each collection evolves.
HEALTH AND WELL BEING – MY BLOG: SOLVE MY LIFE
I’m not here to promote an unhealthy lifestyle; I’m always working on my own habits, balance, and overall well-being. While I keep moving forward to become a healthier woman, I strive to embrace exactly who I am at this moment, and be the kind of woman I wish to be – right now!
That same philosophy is the heart of Curvy Girl Knits—and it’s also woven into my new project, Solve My Life, a blog focused on self-care, personal mental health, and the realities of navigating elder care. SolveMyLife.com is available now and my latest blog can be found at CurvyGirlKnits.com too! I can’t wait to share honest conversations and practical support for every season of life.
A little recent background…
I moved to the Springs 2 years ago, 2 months before we went into quarantine. Ugh! At that time my mom (who lives downstairs in our house) became ill and we spent even more time in our own quarantine so as not to risk her getting sick. I wish I could say I took that time to work on my business but I didn’t.
We moved here from San Diego where this all germinated. I have been planning and creating in classes and in my sewing room for 6+ years. I am very educated about my craft but feeling so nervous about launching the business.
I am not employed as I have had to take care of my mom almost full-time for the past year. Leaving her alone for several days is not currently an option. My dream of getting this business off the ground now has the best of circumstances to come to fruition.
What’s happening now…
I decided a month ago to apply to an Arts and Crafts show on April 30th in Parker. It should have an attendance of about 1000 people. I plan to use this as a testing ground for what people might be interested in and hopefully purchase. It has also lit a fire in me and I have been quite busy sewing, designing and sewing.
I plan to have my website up at least for initial orders just after the show. I don’t see how I am going to get it done before. I am attaching the notes for that as well and I already have a shopify shop that I started last summer.
My plan at the show is to only sell my t-shirts and accessory bags. A reasonable price point for each and to try to not only garner interest but to also recoup some of the recent start-up cash.
